We all know that space is very large, but what are some of the other fascinating facts about space?

Some people might not be aware that there are more than 200 billion stars in our galaxy or that it takes light from the Sun 8 minutes to reach Earth.

This blog post will cover eleven interesting and fun facts you may not have known about Space.

        1. Space Has No Sound

The first thing you need to know about space is that it has no sound! In space, there is no air to carry sound waves.

        2. A Day on Venus is Longer Than a Year

The second thing you need to know about space is that a day on Venus lasts longer than one year.

It takes 243 Earth days for Venus to complete a full day. This happens because Venus has a slower rotation axis.

        3. 1 million Earths Can Fit in The Sun

The third thing you need to know about space is that if all the Earths were piled on top of each other, there would be enough for one Sun.

        4. Mars Has Water

The fourth thing you need to know about space is that Mars has water.

We used to believe that only earth had liquid water, but recently NASA revealed that there is evidence of water on Mars.

        5. Lots of Space Junk

Due to the many missions humans have made to space, there is a lot of space junk floating around.

There are many live satellites, old rockets, and other objects that have been left in orbit by humans.

This can be dangerous because if the two pieces collide, they could shatter into thousands of smaller pieces which threaten to damage spacecraft orbiting Earth or even crash onto our planet’s surface!

         6. Sunset on Mars is Blue in Color

The sixth thing you need to know about space is that the sunset on Mars is blue in color.

This happens because of the dust particles suspended in the Martian atmosphere and by looking at it from a distance we can see other colors reflected off those particles.

Our Sun appears yellow as it sets over Earth, but when seen through the light-brown Martian atmosphere, the Sun appears a deep blue.

         7. Planet Made Out of Diamonds

The seventh thing you need to know about space is that there’s a planet made from diamonds!

Its name is 55 Cancri e and is located 40 light-years from the earth and has a radius of about twice that of Earth.

The planet’s atmosphere consists mostly of carbon, iron, silicon carbide, and silicates.

         8. A NASA suit costs 12.000.000$

The eighth thing that you must know about space is the fact that a NASA suit costs $12 million.

For astronauts to be safe in outer space, they must have special protective suits with airlocks and life support systems built in so as not to suffocate or freeze while working outside of the spacecraft.

NASA has made many suits and they have a lot of safety features to protect astronauts.

        9. The Apollo Crew Footprints will stay On the Moon For 100 million Years

One funny thing to know about space is that the Apollo crew footprints will stay on the moon for 100 million years.

The sand they stepped in has been backed by sunlight since 1969, and not even rain or wind can change it.

This creates a reminder of humans’ visit to our only natural satellite.

         10 . Jupiter’s Red Spot Is Shrinking

NASA found out from the Hubble telescope that the giant storm in Jupiter’s atmosphere, the Red Spot, is shrinking.

The storm has been observed for more than 300 years and in recent observations.

Scientists believe that there are two competing theories on what’s causing the spot to shrink: either cooler temperatures or less wind shear could be slowing down the storm.

        11. The Hottest Planet in Our Solar System is 450° C

The final thing you need to know about space is that the hottest planet in our solar system is 450° C.

This happens because Venus has a very dense atmosphere that traps heat and prevents it from radiating back out into space, so its surface temperature stays high regardless of how far away it is from the Sun.
